What This Does
Your Rep AI assistant can suggest related products naturally during a conversation β at the moment it makes the most sense. It decides on its own when a recommendation will genuinely help the shopper, so you don't have to set up rules or triggers.
There are two kinds of recommendations:
Similar items β alternatives to a product the shopper is looking at ("Here are some similar options")
Complementary items β products that go well together, like "frequently bought together" ("These go great with the sneakers you just added")
Both appear in the same product carousel your shoppers already know. The key change: your AI chooses when to recommend, and reviews the suggestions for relevance before showing them β so what shoppers see feels curated, not random.
When Recommendations Appear
Situation | What the shopper sees | Type |
|---|---|---|
Just added an item to their cart | "Great choice! These go well with it:" | Complementary |
Asks "what else should I get?" | Products that pair with their cart | Complementary |
Interested in an out-of-stock product | "That's out of stock β here are similar options:" | Similar |
Asks "show me something similar" | Comparable products in the same category | Similar |
Feels a product is too expensive | Similar products at different price points | Similar |
If the moment isn't right β or nothing relevant is available β the AI simply keeps helping. It will never show an empty or off-topic carousel.
Recommendations That Actually Make Sense
Recommendation engines sometimes surface odd suggestions β an unrelated item that just happened to be viewed or bought in the same session. Your AI reviews every recommendation before showing it and removes anything that doesn't fit:
Similar items are kept to genuine alternatives in the same category β a phone case won't show up as "similar" to a yoga mat.
Complementary items are kept to products that logically go together β things that complete a look or act as a natural add-on.
The result: shoppers see recommendations that feel hand-picked, which makes them far more likely to add to cart.
Nothing to Turn On
This works automatically. Your AI has the recommendation capability built in and uses it whenever the conversation calls for it β no flows, triggers, or settings to configure on your end.
Use Cases
Lift average order value: A shopper adds running shoes; the AI suggests matching socks and a water bottle.
Save the sale on out-of-stock items: Instead of a dead end, the shopper gets in-stock alternatives.
Answer "what goes with this?": A curated set, not a generic catalog dump.
Meet a budget: When price is the objection, the AI surfaces similar options at different price points.
Troubleshooting
The recommended products don't seem like a good fit
The AI filters out clearly irrelevant items, but recommendations are built from your store's real browsing and purchase patterns β richer catalog data produces stronger matches over time.
Recommendations aren't appearing in some conversations
The AI only recommends when it has relevant products to show and the moment fits the conversation. If there's nothing genuinely useful to suggest, it stays focused on helping the shopper instead.
Items already in the cart aren't showing up
That's intentional β complementary recommendations always exclude what's already in the cart.
