Your Shopify store holds product details in metafields — like materials, compatibility info, or sizing specs — that your standard product descriptions may not cover. With Product Meta Fields, you choose which ones Rep AI reads, so your AI gives shoppers more accurate answers.
When You'd Use This
Shoppers ask about product details (materials, specs, compatibility) that live in your Shopify metafields, not your descriptions
You want the AI to give more precise, detailed product answers
You've invested in filling out Shopify metafields and want your AI to use that data
How to Enable Product Meta Fields
In your Rep AI Console, go to AI Training > Catalog > Product Meta Fields
You'll see all the Shopify metafield definitions from your store, each showing its name, key, and type
Toggle Activated for the metafields you want the AI to use
Click Save
You can enable up to 5 metafields at a time. A counter at the top shows how many you've used (e.g., "4 / 5 Fields Enabled"). To swap one out, deactivate a field, activate a different one, and save.
Once saved, the AI will include that metafield data when answering product questions in future conversations.
Which Metafields Should I Enable?
Enable metafields that contain useful text information shoppers would ask about:
Materials and composition
Compatibility or sizing details
Shipping or pre-order dates
Product specifications (dimensions, weight, capacity)
Care instructions
Don't enable metafields meant for visual display only — image references, color swatches, or layout data won't help the AI answer questions.
Start with the product questions your customers ask most. If the answer lives in a metafield, that's the one to enable.
Troubleshooting
I don't see any metafields listed
Your Shopify store may not have metafield definitions set up yet. Create them in Shopify Admin under Settings > Custom Data > Products — they'll appear in Rep AI automatically.
I can't activate any more metafields
You've reached the limit of 5. Deactivate one you no longer need, then activate a new one.
The AI isn't using my enabled metafield data yet
The data becomes available after your next catalog sync. If a metafield is empty for certain products in Shopify, the AI won't have data to reference for those products.
