During your Rep AI onboarding process, you'll reach a step where you need to activate your chat widget using Shopify's app embed feature. This guide walks you through this critical onboarding step and explains the important "Save" action that makes your chat widget go live.
What This Onboarding Step Does
The Shopify app embed activation step automatically adds Rep's tracking code to your store without manual installation. This enables our behavioral AI to predict customer drop-off and engage shoppers in real time.
Important: Rep will not be visible on your site until you complete this onboarding step and choose to launch it later.
Step-by-Step Onboarding Process
1. Reach the "Activate Tag" Step
During onboarding, you'll see a screen with the title "Activate the Rep tag" and instructions about using Shopify app embed.
2. Click "Activate Tag"
Click the "Activate Tag" button. This will automatically open a new browser tab taking you to your Shopify theme editor.
3. Shopify Opens with Pre-Selected Settings
The new tab opens directly in your Shopify theme editor with:
Rep AI app embed already selected and activated (switched "On")
The correct app embed settings pre-configured
Ready for you to save the changes
4. The Critical Step: Click Save in Shopify
Here's the most important part - you must click the "Save" button in Shopify's theme editor for the changes to take effect.
Why this matters: Even though the app embed shows as "On," your chat widget won't appear on your store until you save these changes in Shopify. Shopify requires you to save theme changes before they go live.
5. Return to Complete Onboarding
After you save in Shopify, you need to return to your Rep onboarding tab. Once you're back on the onboarding screen, Rep will automatically detect that you've saved the activation and progress to the next step. You'll see the confirmation screen appear after returning to the onboarding flow.
What You'll See During This Step
In Shopify Theme Editor:
Rep AI app embed already activated (switched "On")
App embed visible in your Apps section
"Save" button in the top-right corner (this is what you need to click!)
In Rep Onboarding:
The screen will automatically advance once you save in Shopify
Next onboarding step will appear
Troubleshooting This Onboarding Step
The onboarding seems stuck on "Activate Tag":
Make sure you clicked "Save" in the Shopify theme editor
The system automatically checks for activation every few seconds
If still stuck, try refreshing the Shopify page and saving again
I accidentally closed the Shopify tab:
Click "Activate Tag" again to reopen Shopify
The app embed should still be activated
just click "Save" to complete
Chat widget still not showing after saving:
This is normal during onboarding - the widget won't appear until you launch it in later steps
The tracking code is now active and ready for when you choose to go live
