Connect your Attentive account to Rep AI and collect customer emails and phone numbers through your AI conversations. Your AI assistant subscribes shoppers to your Attentive marketing audiences as they chat, turning everyday browsing questions into new subscribers on both channels.
What You Can Do with the Attentive Integration
Collect email subscribers, SMS subscribers, or both in a single conversation
Offer exclusive discounts to shoppers who subscribe
Choose which details are required so you can balance subscriber quality against sign-up rate
Turn casual conversations into marketing opportunities with a natural in-chat sign-up
Boost your Attentive ROI with high-intent subscribers who came from your own store
How to Connect Attentive to Rep AI
Rep AI uses OAuth to authenticate with Attentive, so the connection takes about a minute:
Navigate to Integrations
Go to Settings → Integrations in your Rep AI Console
Select the "Marketing" tab
Connect Attentive
Find the Attentive card and click "Connect"
You'll be redirected to Attentive to authorize Rep AI
Log in to your Attentive account if prompted
Review the permissions and click "Allow" to connect
Verify Connection
Once authorized, you'll be redirected back to Rep AI
A green "Connected" status appears on the Attentive card
Your integration is ready to configure
One connection covers both email and SMS — there is nothing extra to authorize for email, and no need to reconnect an Attentive account you already had linked.
Choosing Which Attentive Audience to Subscribe To
Attentive organizes subscribers using Sign-Up Sources, which record where each subscriber joined your list. Rep AI gives you two ways to pick where your chat subscribers land.
Option 1: Use the Default Marketing Audience
If you haven't added any sign-up sources to Rep AI, a Marketing (en-US) list is available in your list dropdown as soon as Attentive is connected. Selecting it opts shoppers into your standard Attentive marketing audience, and Attentive matches them to the right opt-in unit on its side. This is the fastest way to go live — no setup in Attentive required.
Option 2: Add Your Own Sign-Up Sources
To route chat subscribers to a specific sign-up source — for example, to report on chat-sourced subscribers separately, or to target a market outside the US:
Find your Sign-Up Source ID and Label in Attentive
Open your Attentive dashboard
Go to the Sign-Up Units section
Note the ID and Label of the source you want to use with Rep AI
Add the Sign-Up Source to Rep AI
In your Rep AI Console, open the Attentive integration settings
Click "Add" in the Signup sources section
Enter the Sign-Up Source ID and Label exactly as they appear in Attentive
Click the checkmark to save the source
You can add several sign-up sources and use different ones for different promotions or segments.
Good to know: as soon as you add at least one sign-up source, your own sources become the list options, and the default Marketing (en-US) list is no longer offered. If you want to go back to the default, remove your sign-up sources. Any Power-Up already pointed at a specific sign-up source keeps using it either way.
"Subscribe & Get a Discount" Power-Up
This Power-Up lets your AI assistant offer a discount code in exchange for a subscription.
How to Set Up
In the Attentive card, find "Subscribe & get a discount" and click "Edit Power-Up"
Under "Customer details to collect", set each detail to Required, Optional, or Off:
Email — collect an email address for your Attentive email audience
Phone — collect a phone number for your Attentive SMS audience
Name — collect the shopper's name alongside their contact details
Select a list under "Subscribe to an email/SMS list"
Choose the discount code to offer subscribers
Save the Power-Up to activate it
Any combination works. Set Email to Required and Phone to Off to build an email-only audience. Set both to Required to capture both channels in one conversation. Set one to Required and the other to Optional to ask for both while still completing the sign-up when a shopper only shares one.
How It Works
When a shopper shows interest in a discount or promotion, your AI assistant offers one in exchange for their contact details
The shopper shares their email address, phone number, or both directly in the chat
Everything they provide is sent to Attentive in a single subscription, tagged to the list you selected
The shopper receives their discount code to use on their purchase
Your AI assistant asks for exactly what you configured. If a shopper types an email address that isn't valid, the AI points it out and asks again rather than saving a broken address. If they're already subscribed, the AI lets them know they're already on the list instead of confirming a new sign-up.
Consent Messaging
Rep AI shows a legal disclosure before collecting contact details. The default text covers recurring automated promotional and personalized marketing messages from your store and notes that consent isn't a condition of purchase. Your Terms and Privacy Policy links are appended automatically when both are set in your general settings. You can replace the default with your own wording when editing the Power-Up — worth doing if your legal team has specific language for your markets.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
Ensure you're logged into the correct Attentive account
Verify you granted all requested permissions during the OAuth process
Try disconnecting and reconnecting the integration
Check that your Attentive account subscription is active
No Lists in the Dropdown
Confirm the Attentive card shows a green "Connected" status
If you added sign-up sources, check that the IDs and labels were saved with the checkmark
Remove any incomplete sign-up source rows — with no valid sources saved, the default Marketing (en-US) list becomes available again
Sign-Up Source Issues
Verify the Sign-Up Source ID and Label match exactly what's in Attentive, including capitalization
Make sure you clicked the checkmark to save each new sign-up source
Confirm the source is still active in Attentive
Subscriptions Not Appearing in Attentive
Check that the selected list is still valid in your Power-Up configuration
Confirm the details you expect are set to Required or Optional, not Off — a detail set to Off is never collected or sent
Check your consent messaging is appropriate for your customers' regions
Look for the subscriber in Attentive using the exact email address or phone number from the conversation
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I collect both email and phone in the same conversation?
A: Yes. Set both to Required in the Power-Up and your AI assistant asks for both, then sends them to Attentive as a single subscription.
Q: What's a "Sign-Up Source" in Attentive?
A: A Sign-Up Source records where a subscriber joined your list. Subscribers who sign up through Rep AI are tagged with whichever source you selected in your Power-Up, so you can report on chat-sourced subscribers separately.
Q: Do I need to configure anything in Attentive before I start?
A: No. A connected Attentive account has a default Marketing (en-US) list available immediately. Adding your own sign-up sources is optional and gives you finer reporting and market control.
Q: I only want SMS subscribers. Is that supported?
A: Yes. Set Phone to Required and Email to Off, and your AI assistant collects phone numbers only.
Q: Does collecting email require a different Attentive plan or permission?
A: No. The same connection and the same permissions cover both channels.
Q: Can I customize what the AI says when asking for a subscription?
A: Yes. You can customize the subscription messaging and the legal disclosure when editing the "Subscribe & Get a Discount" Power-Up.
Q: Will connecting Rep AI affect my existing Attentive automations?
A: No. Rep AI works alongside your existing Attentive workflows and simply adds another way to grow your audiences.
Q: How do I confirm the integration is working?
A: Have a test conversation with your AI assistant, complete the subscribe flow, then look up that email address or phone number in your Attentive dashboard.
Q: Can I disconnect my Attentive account?
A: Yes, click "Disconnect" on the Attentive card in your Integrations page at any time. This disables any active Power-Ups using Attentive.
