Connect Rep AI to the AI assistant you already use, such as Claude, and ask about your store in plain language. Your assistant reads your Rep AI data and answers questions like "What did shoppers ask about most last week?" or "How did Rep AI perform this month compared with last month?" You don't need to open the Rep AI Console or export reports.
The connection is read-only. Your assistant can never change anything in Rep AI, your store, or your conversations.
Every assistant connects to the same Rep AI address:
https://console-server.hellorep.ai/mcp/v1
Jump to your assistant:
What you can ask your assistant
| Ask about | Example question | Permission it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Performance: conversations, engagement, AI-generated sales, conversion and orders, compared with the previous period | "How did Rep AI perform last month compared with the month before?" | How Rep AI is performing |
| Conversation topics: what shoppers talk about, and how often Rep AI helped | "What did shoppers ask about most in the last 30 days?" | How Rep AI is performing |
| Customer problems: where shoppers get stuck, such as high shipping costs or missing product information | "Where do shoppers get stuck on my store?" | How Rep AI is performing |
| Support workload: how many support emails Rep AI handled and how they were resolved | "How many support emails did Rep AI resolve this week?" | How much support email Rep handled |
| Specific conversations: filtered by date, topic, problem, shopper emotion, satisfaction or channel | "Show me conversations from frustrated shoppers last week." | What shoppers talked about, and how it went |
| One shopper's history: every conversation with a shopper, found by their email address | "What happened with alex@example.com?" | What shoppers talked about, and how it went and Who the shopper was |
Your assistant can combine these. For example: "Find the top three customer problems this month, and show me two conversations for each."
Before you start
- You need a Rep AI account for your store.
- You need the admin role on that store in the Rep AI Console. If you are not an admin, ask an admin of your store to make the connection.
- Your assistant's plan must allow custom connections. The Claude section below explains what Claude needs.
How connecting works
The steps differ a little in each assistant, but every connection ends the same way:
- You add Rep AI in your assistant with the address above.
- The Rep AI login page opens. Sign in to the Rep AI Console.
- If you manage more than one store, select the store to connect.
- Under What … will be able to see (the screen shows your assistant's name), select the information your assistant may read. See "Choose what your assistant can see" below.
- Check the Let the assistant read what shoppers wrote switch. It is on by default. Turn it off if your assistant should not see message text.
- Click Connect. You return to your assistant, and Rep AI is ready to use.
Claude
Who can set it up:
- Free plan: you can add one custom connector.
- Team and Enterprise: an organization owner adds the Rep AI connector first. Members then connect it to their own Rep AI store.
Set it up in Claude (claude.ai, or the desktop app):
- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Add Rep AI in one of two ways:
- From the connector directory: browse or search for Rep AI, then click Connect.
- As a custom connector: click Add custom connector, name it Rep AI, paste
https://console-server.hellorep.ai/mcp/v1, click Add, then click Connect next to Rep AI.
- The Rep AI login page opens. Sign in and approve the connection (see "How connecting works" above).
- Ask your question in any Claude chat. Connectors you add on claude.ai also work in the Claude desktop and mobile apps.
For more detail, see Ask Claude About Your Store: Connect Rep AI to Claude.
Other assistants
Rep AI works with assistants and tools that support remote MCP servers. Use the address https://console-server.hellorep.ai/mcp/v1.
Claude Code:
- In your terminal, run:
claude mcp add --transport http rep-ai https://console-server.hellorep.ai/mcp/v1 - In Claude Code, run
/mcp, select rep-ai, and choose to authenticate. - Your browser opens the Rep AI login page. Sign in and approve the connection.
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers: add a remote server with the address above. If the assistant supports OAuth sign-in, it opens the Rep AI login page for you.
Clients that can't sign in but can send a header: create a key in the Rep AI Console instead.
- Open the account menu, then click API.
- In Connections (MCP), click Use a key instead. Name the connection, choose what it can see, and create it.
- Copy the secret. It is shown only once.
- Send it with every request as the header
Authorization: Bearer <your secret>. For example, in Claude Code:claude mcp add --transport http rep-ai https://console-server.hellorep.ai/mcp/v1 --header "Authorization: Bearer <your secret>"
Keep the secret private, like a password.
Choose what your assistant can see
You decide what your assistant may read. Select only what you need. When you connect through a sign-in page, the first two permissions are selected by default. You must select the others yourself.
| Permission | What your assistant can see |
|---|---|
| How Rep AI is performing | Store-wide performance figures, and the topics and customer problems summarized across all your conversations. |
| What shoppers talked about, and how it went | For each conversation: its topics, the problem the shopper had, how they seemed to feel, satisfaction, timings, tags, and whether an order followed. Not the messages themselves. |
| The actual messages | The messages exchanged between your shoppers and Rep AI. |
| Who the shopper was | The name, email address and phone number of the shoppers in your conversations. |
| How much support email Rep handled | How many support tickets Rep AI handled and how they were resolved. |
Let the assistant read what shoppers wrote works together with The actual messages. Your assistant sees message text only when both are on. When either is off, it can see how many conversations there were, what they were about and how they ended, but not the messages.
Your assistant can answer a question only when the connection has the permission that question needs (see the table at the top). If a permission is missing, your assistant tells you it can't answer that question. Add the permission in the Rep AI Console and ask again.
Manage or disconnect
In the Rep AI Console:
- Open the account menu, then click API.
- Go to Connections (MCP). Each connection shows what it can see, who approved it, and when it was last used.
- To change what an assistant can see, click Edit on its connection. Change the permissions or the message-text switch, then click Save changes. You don't need to reconnect.
- To disconnect an assistant, click Revoke on its connection, then confirm.
When you revoke a connection, the assistant loses access right away. A revoked connection can't be turned back on. To connect again, start again from your assistant and approve the new request.
Every member of your store can see the list of connections. Only an account admin can edit or revoke them.
In your assistant: you can also remove Rep AI from your assistant's settings. To make sure access ends on the Rep AI side too, also revoke the connection in the Rep AI Console.
Troubleshooting
"Only an account admin can connect an AI assistant to this store."
You are not an admin of that store. Ask an admin of the store to make the connection, or to give you the admin role.
"AI assistant connections are not on this store's plan."
Contact us and we'll help you turn them on.
"This connection request is no longer valid."
The request expired or was already answered. Start the connection again from your assistant.
Your assistant can't find the option to add a custom connection.
Your assistant's plan or account type may not allow it. For Claude, check "Who can set it up" in the Claude section above.
Your assistant says there is no data for a period.
Rep AI reports only from the day your store started using Rep AI. Topics and customer problems update once a day, so today's conversations appear in them the next day. Conversation search goes back up to one year. A lookup of one shopper by email has no date limit.
Support email figures are empty.
Support workload covers Rep AI's AI email answering. If AI email answering is not connected for your store, there is nothing to report.
Your assistant can't answer a question about conversations or a specific shopper.
The connection doesn't have the permission that question needs. Check the table at the top of this article. Then add the permission with Edit in the Rep AI Console.
Days look slightly different from the Rep AI Console.
Rep AI counts whole days in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) when it answers your assistant. Your Console may show your local time, so the first or last day of a period can differ slightly.
Your data and privacy
- The connection is read-only. Your assistant can never change anything in Rep AI.
- Rep AI sends data only when your assistant asks for it to answer your question, and only within the permissions you approved.
- Rep AI marks text written by shoppers as information to report on, not instructions to follow.
- Data your assistant receives is handled under your assistant provider's own terms and privacy policy.
- You can change permissions or revoke a connection at any time in the Rep AI Console.
- See the Rep AI privacy policy: https://www.hellorep.ai/legal/privacy-policy
