The Recommend Component can be used to suggest Similar Items when customers view a Product on a Product page or, Frequently Bought Together Items when customers have a product in their cart. The latter option is a perfect way to upsell!
The recommendations are given based on the customer's taste and actual past customer behavior:
- Products suggested as Similar Items will be products that other customers have checked when viewing the same product the customer is viewing;
- Products suggested as Frequently Bought Together Items will be products that other customers usually buy along with the product found in the customer's cart.

The text you add to this block will be presented right before showing the recommendations. The default wording is "Here are some products I thought you'd be interested in:". Keeping it is not a must - feel free to remove it altogether or change the text.
Settings
Recommendation type
Allows you to choose what exactly your Recommendation Component will offer - Similar Items (to the last product viewed, according to the most-recently viewed Product Page) or Frequently Bought Together Items (with the products the customer has in the cart).
Click on the "Recommendation type" field to see the two options and pick the one you're interested in:
Limit to groups
Use this option if you'd like to limit the recommendations given to a certain Product Group. The product group must be configured in Shopify beforehand and individual products cannot be recommended. That's not mandatory - you can also leave this field unfilled.
If there are no recommendations
As mentioned, the recommendations are based on real data Rep has collected. There might be cases where more data is required to recommend products using the Recommend feature.
For example, maybe you launched a new product 2 days ago, and no one has had the chance to buy it with another product yet. In such a case, Frequently Bought Together recommendations cannot be populated.
Click on the "If there are no recommendations" field to choose a default flow that will start when there isn't enough data.
💡 Rep Expert tip: the best option to choose is your "Browse store" flow, as it will allow the customers to browse more products and get recommendations based on their answers if needed.
After a successful-add-to-cart
When Rep recommends products, the customer can either click on "Learn More"/the product's image and get redirected to the specific Product Page or, add the product to the cart in the chat.
By default, when customers choose to add the product to the cart using Rep, Rep will ask, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" and offer the following chips:
If you'd like something else to happen after a successful add-to-cart, click on "Continue to flow" and choose the flow that will be invoked.
Display a limited amount of recommended products
You can use this field to define the maximum number of recommendations Rep will provide - if you feel that showing more than a certain amount of products will overwhelm your customers.
The default limitation will always be 5 products. You can change it to any number you want.
